How to choose baby cosmetics?

We use cosmetic products daily for baby's skin care: soap, shower gel, shampoo, cream, massage oil, reddish cream. But very often these products contain chemical ingredients with negative impact on the health of the child. Often we read on the label the ingredients from which these products are made and remember the chemistry lesson.

There are already studies showing that some ingredients are harmful to our health, even favoring the development of cancer. Aluminum, mineral oils derived from petroleum, parabens, phenoxyethanol, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) have been shown to cause long-term allergies to much more serious diseases. Around 9,000 chemicals are regularly used by the cosmetic industry, many of them harmful to health. They are used in small quantities to respond to health regulations.

This is why it is very important to choose products that are as natural as possible for the care of the baby, which has a more sensitive skin than the adult one. But how do we make this choice? There are products that the producers sell as natural and others BIO. BIO certified products have the following advantages:

  • promoting the use of organic agriculture products and respecting biodiversity;
  • using natural resources responsibly and respecting the environment;
  • the use of clean and respectful processes for human health and the environment;
  • integration and development of the concept of "Green Chemistry".

The benefits that these products bring are the following:

Respect for man

Apart from the absence of raw materials that may contain chemicals and pollutants (pesticides, synthetic chemical fertilizers, GMOs) which, in the long term may be harmful to our body and the environment, the cosmetic product according to the standard of ecological and biological cosmetics is rich in assets. of natural origin, in accordance with our skin.

traceability

It is not always easy to understand the exact composition of a conventional cosmetic product and to identify the source of the raw materials that compose it. Biological cosmetology is controlled today by independent organisms. This allows to guarantee a safe traceability of the ingredients, the manufacturing process and the finished products.

Preservation of the environment

Organic farming is a mode of production that by definition respects biodiversity and natural balance. By actively supporting this agricultural practice, we all help to improve the quality of water, soil and air.

Wealth of organic products

Nature offers us a very diverse range of ingredients. Each ingredient, be it of vegetable or mineral origin, has well-defined properties. This natural diversity favors the creation of wide ranges of efficient, very natural and healthy products. (Definition taken from: //www.cosmebio.org/fr/pourquoi-la-cosmetique-bio.php.)

For a better understanding of these principles, here is the BIO label on the label of a certified product:

  • minimum 95% natural or natural ingredients;
  • at least 95% of the plant ingredients come from organic farming;
  • at least 10% of the total ingredients come from organic farming.

Note: Cosmetic products are often composed of 50 to 80% of the water, which is not certified.
